ihcDirect® GFAP (glial fibrillary acidic protein) is a polymerized horseradish peroxidase (pHRP) labeled GFAP (R246) antibody intended for laboratory use to qualitatively identify by light microscopy the presence of GFAP, which is expressed in several types of central nervous system cells including astrocytes and ependymal cells, in sections of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sections or frozen tissue sections using immunohistochemistry (IHC) test method. The clinical interpretation of any staining or its absence should be complemented by morphological studies using proper controls and should be evaluated within the context of the patient’s clinical history and other diagnostic tests and proper controls interpreted by a qualified pathologist and/or physician. This conjugate has been pre-diluted and optimized for IHC use without further dilution.
Summary and Explanation:
ihcDirect® GFAP Kit (Clone R246) immunohistochemistry (IHC) reagent is for use on frozen and formalin-fixed-paraffin-embedded tissues. Clone R246 antibody reacts with GFAP (glial fibrillary acidic protein), which is a 52kD intermediate filament protein, that is expressed in several types of central nervous system cells including astrocytes and ependymal cells. In the peripheral nervous system, GFAP has been demonstrated in Schwann cells, enteric glial cells and satellite cells of human sensory ganglia. In neoplastic tissues, the antibody may be useful for the identification of astrocytomas and ependymomas. The ihc Blocker provided in the kit used prior to applying GFAP conjugate can reduce background and nonspecific staining. Chromogen 3,3’diaminobenzidine (DAB) is used in this kit.
